External Opportunity
Shakespeare’s Globe is currently seeking an Associate Director for our production of Love’s Labour’s Lost, in the Globe Theatre’s Summer 2026 season. This is a freelance role on a fixed-term contract.
We are committed to improving diversity and inclusion across our organisation. Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and the Global Majority are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single specification. If you’re excited about the role but your experience or qualifications don’t perfectly align, we encourage you to apply anyway. We particularly encourage applications from underrepresented groups such as the global majority, LGBTQA+, those from a working-class background, those with a disability and neurodiverse conditions.
The role:
This is a position for a director who is looking to expand their understanding of directing large scale productions of Shakespeare or Epic texts. The role will provide the recipient with practical, embedded experience of working on a large-scale professional production with an inspirational Director, creating work bespoke to the unique playing conditions of The Globe Theatre.
The Associate Director will support the Director and Company during rehearsals and previews with the realisation of the Production, as well as the co-ordination and delivery of participation activity such as post-show talks, assisted performances or workshops. The Associate Director will also hold the production and the company during the run, watching and noting performances on behalf of the Director.
Contract Fee: £6,988.80
This fee covers the full-time engagement of services from the start of Prep Week until Press Night.
After Press Night, the Associate Director is expected to attend and note one performance every two weeks, to be scheduled in advance with the Director and Line Producer. A fee of £167.30 per show watch will be paid in addition to the contract fee.
Any additional work before Prep Week or after Press Night will be paid at a rate of £167.30 per day.
