Club Styles: Movement, Foundations & Expression
This workshop explores a range of movement techniques and foundations connected to club styles of dance. Rather than focusing on learning choreography, the session is designed to build knowledge, understanding, and confidence through movement exploration.
Participants will be introduced to key concepts, techniques, and qualities found across different club dance styles, developing both their physical vocabulary and cultural awareness. Through a combination of individual exercises, partner work, and group activities, dancers will explore rhythm, groove, musicality, and movement in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Open to dancers of all levels, this workshop encourages curiosity, creativity, and self-expression while deepening participants’ understanding of the history, foundations, and movement language of club dance styles.
Leighton Rees Milan is a Cardiff-based dancer, choreographer, DJ, and event curator. A trailblazer of the Welsh Ballroom scene, Leighton is a proud member of the UK Dynasty of the Iconic House of Milan, one of Ballroom’s most influential houses, founded in the United States in 1989.
Originally self-taught in his hometown of Cardiff, Leighton went on to train in London, Los Angeles, and across Europe, building a strong foundation in Street Dance while expanding his movement vocabulary across multiple styles. His career has taken him around the world, working across live tours, television, fashion, music, and nightlife.
Leighton’s credits include collaborations with Black Eyed Peas, Erykah Badu, Bree Runway, Cakes Da Killa, the Chris Lee Chinese Tour, Glitterbox, Defected Records, Paradise, HE.SHE.THEY., Pacha, Adidas, Boohoo, and the BBC.
Through his work as a performer, creative, and curator, he continues to champion Ballroom culture while creating spaces that celebrate authenticity, community, and self-expression.
