SUMMARY:Casglu with Jo Fong
DESCRIPTION:Casglu is a monthly space for professional dancers and movement practitioners to come together\, explore their craft and learn from established industry leaders. \n\n\n\nLiveness \n\n\n\n“Liveness is at the core of my work\, it’s something of a performative risk\, being in the moment\, with this moment is a craft of presence and awareness. We might call it live investigation\, the act of creating this now. Is it different to improvisation\, I think so… Movement is momentum\, forward motion\, in every action something changes. It’s a collective action. I like this phrase – We are consenting to explore the unknown. We will be moving\, playing\, responding\, following\, listening\, embodying\, generating\, noticing… What happens next is not anything we can predict. In terms of choreographic languages\, I draw on a wealth of influences\, from somatic and improvisation techniques\, self-generating prompts and tools or games that explore relationships with our bodies\, spaces between people\, play and working with objects. For me\, it’s about the possibility for liveness\, presence. My work is about creating the conditions so that liveness can occur.” – Jo Fong \n\n\n\nWe want our spaces to be inclusive. Jo is an experienced inclusive arts practitioner. Lately she has worked with Disabled Dance Artists as part of the Sadlers Wells development programme\, she created a show with 6 men who have autism\, held intergenerational workshops for\, people who love to move\, Cardiff’s LGBTQAI+ group Butterfly Soup in Cardiff and recently initiated gatherings for Global Majority Dance Artists in Wales to come together to share\, support and inspire. Jo is a BSL learner and has been working with D/deaf artists since 2016.This workshop invites dance practitioners to join. All the exercises and offerings are open and can be approached in a number of ways. \n\n\n\nIf you would like to have a conversation with Jo or members of Casglu at Theatr Clwyd to find out more \, do please get in touch. \n\n\n\nPhoto by Lucas Chih Peng Kao 高智鵬 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJo lives near Pontypridd and her creative work reflects the need in these times for people to come together. Her artistic practice is an evolving\, collaborative approach which puts ideas around belonging or forming community in the forefront. Key choreographic works include Ways of Being Together (2018/20) and How Shall We Begin Again? (2022/23) around portraiture\, protest and something like a prayer\, the movement processes collaborate with up to 50 people at a time. \n\n\n\nAs a performer Jo has worked with Rosas\, Quarantine\, DV8 Physical Theatre\, Wendy Houstoun\, Nigel Charnock and alongside directors as movement director for National Theatre Wales\, Welsh National Opera and Theater St Gallen. \n\n\n\nShe has presented across the UK and International festivals and is currently involved in a number of dance\, theatre and live art performances. The award-winning\, The Rest of Our Lives was created and performed with clown and circus director George Orange and will be heading to Noordezon Festival in Holland this summer. Neither Here Nor There is an unexpected performance that is being re-staged and presented this year alongside longtime collaborator artist Sonia Hughes. Jo recently initiated a new project called No Despair\, the study will explore the creation of indoor and outdoor works involving a diverse cast of players and movers responding to the question: What to do in the face of fascism? \n\n\n\nAnd the wonder\, Lady Marmalade\, initiated by Sonia Hughes / Weeding Cane brings together a group of *women to explore their rage\, grief and desire. It’s a process\, it’s a band! \n\n\n\n*incl anyone who is nonbinary\, trans & femmeFind out more about Jo www. jofong.com \n\n\n\n\nSign Up

SUMMARY:Casglu with Cai Tomos
DESCRIPTION:Casglu is a monthly space for professional dancers and movement practitioners to come together\, explore their craft and learn from established industry leaders. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is open to anyone curious about learning from their own body and imagination. There is an inherent grace that appears in movement when we begin to source and trust our own dance. The workshop will explore processes that support an active dialogue between sensation\, imagination\, and movement\, and compositions that emerge in each moment. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSign Up

SUMMARY:Casglu with Jennifer Jackson
DESCRIPTION:Casglu is a monthly space for professional dancers and movement practitioners to come together\, explore their craft and learn from established industry leaders. \n\n\n\nJennifer Jackson Company creates exhilarating and empowering experiences for audiences and participants which invites them to dream into new kinships and cosmologies. The company is led by Jennifer Jackson\, an award winning Latinx British-Bolivian Theatremaker\, Movement Director\, Choreographer\, writer and Performer. Her work exists at the meeting point of performance and the excitement of a sports spectacle. \n\n\n\nHer practice is interdisciplinary\, intersectional\, and inclusive. She is particularly interested in the sports arena as a space that deals in the fatigue and resurrection of bodies\, and the porous relationship between audience and athlete. \n\n\n\nHer performances encompass theatre\, contemporary dance\, live art\, Bolivian folk dance\, martial arts\, and co-creation. Drawing from her mixed-heritage\, Jennifer tells stories that speak to her diasporic heritage\, post-colonial legacies; exploring power & gender biases. Often centring on the experiences of people who experience misogyny\, her work examines the ways that women and girls use their bodies\, the complexity of living between cultures\, and proposes that the use of space is intimately tied up with power. \n\n\n\n\nSign Up

SUMMARY:Casglu with Jane McLean
DESCRIPTION:Casglu is a monthly space for professional dancers and movement practitioners to come together\, explore their craft and learn from established industry leaders. \n\n\n\nIn this session\, Jane will offer scores and structures for improvisation. Inspired by the natural elements\, we will layer their qualities\, imagery and dynamics to explore dances rich in possibility\, form and expression. Within the session there’ll be space for dancing solo\, with others\, for writing and drawing. \n\n\n\nImprovisation through movement and dance has much potential to teach us about self\, others and ways of being in the world\, whilst taking care of ourselves and following our own appetites and interests for moving. This session offers a space to be with your own dancing\, guided and supported by the presence of others. \n\n\n\nJane McLean is a dance artist\, facilitator and creative leader. She works with improvisation\, touch\, poetry and mark making to cultivate presence\, attention and curiosity and to create dances with people of all ages and abilities. As the Creative Director of Cheshire Dance she champions the importance of embodied knowledge and of valuing\, celebrating and amplifying the creative expression of people from underrepresented communities. \n\n\n\nDrawing on twenty years of experience she facilitates one to ones\, classes and workshops\, offers mentoring and support for artists\, creates performance and leads programmes and projects of different sizes and scopes\, currently with a focus on people labelled as having profound and multiple learning disabilities and artist development. \n\n\n\nEnquiries into anatomy\, presence\, attention to sensation\, use of energy and focus support all of her work – though the forms the work takes continually evolve. \n\n\n\nFind out more about Jane’s work here. \n\n\n\n\nSign Up
