Write With… is an on-line communal work session to nurture creativity, carve out time to be a playwright and hold yourself accountable to your goals as a professional playwright.
You can join us at home, on the train, in a café – anywhere that you might carve out time to be a writer.
These sessions are not an opportunity to share work, receive feedback on your work or pitch ideas to either Sherman Theatre or Theatr Clwyd – it is to focus on the process of writing, build community and find support with fellow playwrights.
This session of Write With… will be led by Matthew Barry.
Matthew is a Welsh screenwriter living in Los Angeles and London. Matthew works on both sides of the Atlantic, with original projects and adaptations in production and development with multiple networks and studios, including HBO, BBC, Fifth Season and Netflix.
His upcoming BBC Drama series, ‘Old Town Murders’, set in Tenby, will TX in 2027. His original drama, ‘The Guest’ for BBC One / Showtime was one of the BBC’s biggest dramas of 2025. The Financial Times called it “a gripping gothic tale of rich and poor.”
‘Men Up’, also for BBC One, won Matthew the award for Best Writer at the BAFTA Cymru Awards, RTS Wales Award for Best Drama, Best Feature at the Banff World Media Festival, the C21 International Drama Award, and was nominated for a Broadcast Award and the RTS Best Single Drama Award.
An alumni of the BBC Writers’ Academy, Matthew’s previous credits include ‘Industry’, ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’, ‘Death in Paradise’, ‘Banana’ and ‘Stella’.
Matthew started his career writing across numerous continuing dramas including multiple episodes of ‘Eastenders’, ‘Holby City’ and ‘Casualty’, for which he penned the 30th Anniversary episode and RTS Award Winning Episode.
Write With… is delivered in partnership with Sherman Theatre.
