Write With… is an on-line communal work session to nurture creativity, carve out time to be a playwright and hold yourself accountable to your goals as a professional playwright.
You can join us at home, on the train, in a café – anywhere that you might carve out time to be a writer.
These sessions are not an opportunity to share work, receive feedback on your work or pitch ideas to either Sherman Theatre or Theatr Clwyd – it is to focus on the process of writing, build community and find support with fellow playwrights.
This session of Write With… will be led by Leila Navabi.
Leila is a 26-year-old writer, composer and comedian from South Wales. In 2023, she made her Edinburgh Fringe debut with a sellout run of her musical comedy hour ‘Composition’. It was met with critical acclaim – ‘an eye-catching introduction to a comic of promise’ (Guardian). The show then transferred to Soho Theatre, where it was dubbed ‘a debut full of charm, originality and promise’ (The Telegraph).
Described as ‘the actual future of comedy’ (LMAOnaise), her television and radio stand-up credits include Comedy Central Live (Comedy Central), BBC New Comedy Awards (BBC Three), Live at Aberystwyth Pier (BBC One Wales), Crush Hour (Audible), Loose Ends (BBC Radio 4), Stand-up Sesh (BBC One Wales), and The Leak (BBC Radio Wales). She is bilingual, with Welsh Language credits including Ffyrnig (S4C) and Ni y Nawdegau (BBC Cymru). She has provided tour support for Jessica Fostekew, Laura Smyth and Nish Kumar.
Leila’s most recent piece is a musical comedy ‘Relay’, which premiered at the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe at the Pleasance in Courtyard. The production was part of the Pleasance Edinburgh National Partnership, presented in collaboration with the Sherman Theatre. It is currently touring across the UK.
Write With… is delivered in partnership with Sherman Theatre.
